We just spent 9 fantastic days at Portofino Beach Resort. If you are looking for a spot in Belize just to relax, then this is the place for you. Every meal we had there was delicious and the entire staff are friendly and enjoyable!! Every thing there was kept clean. We are already planning our return there in two years!!

Just my style, easy going, total full service resort.Restaurant is amazing. Green Parrot bar is great. Action Diving is great fun.

We had a good time overall. Only minor issue we had was with noisy neighbors stomping around at 5 in the morning. If you can, get an upstairs room! Other than that, it was a great little place.

We didnt stay at the resort but ate at their restaurant and used their pool and beach front. This place was amazing! The food in the restaurant was delicious and the resort was clean and the staff very friendly. It is located far enough away from the hustle and bustle of town but not too far. I would probably actually stay here next time.

Portofino Beach Resort has been absolutely phenomenal! From the moment my husband and I got to Belize city and boarded our flight out to San Pedro, to the moment we arrived and were picked up by boat and whisked away to the Portofino. We arrived at the dock and were greeted with beautifully scented eucalyptus face towels and a rum punch as our welcome. We purchased the honeymoon package and wow was it worth it!!! The breakfast included was delicious, the tours were fun and the staff treated us with such welcome arms and excellent service! As for our rooms!! WOW! We stayed in the Jasmine suite (treehouse) and it was beautifully decorated, spacious, and romantic. Every night the staff would come a do a turn down service and leave a night time treat in our fridge. There were also beautiful artisan soaps refreshed in our room daily. We also had a beautiful romantic dinner served on the beach by the wonderful James, with Candleight, delicious seafood and a bottle of wine. We also had a wonderful morning snorkelling with Russell at Mexico Rocks! So much marine life and Russels passion for the ocean is really what makes this trip worth it! He will spend all morning pointing out eels, picking up conch to show you, seaturtles, stingrays, and this list goes on! Couldn’t ask for a better or more friendly stay!We truly enjoyed our honeymoon at Portofino and can’t wait to visit again soon!

We loved this resort! Everyone was so friendly. The property is clean and well kept. Very quite, that is what we loved the most. Views are amazing. The only down fall is it is a distance from town and top floor rooms dont have a lot of water pressure and with long hair that was a long shower. Definitely recommend and will return. Thank you!

The staff were outstanding, very friendly and eager to be helpful, yet not intrusive. When I arrived I tripped getting out of the boat and the woman greeting us, Daniela, happened to be a nursing student. She patched me up very professionally. The pool was gorgeous. We did not ride bikes or kayak but both were available. Our snorkeling guide was top notch and very attentive. The menu in the restaurant was extensive for every meal. So, if you were there a week or more, there was plenty of variety. The food was quite good. I loved that there were several varieties of fish and seafood.

So impressed with every thing and everyone Bellini, Daniella, Moe, Lois, Eric, Andrea, Kyle, James and all the staff. Its easy to remember the names of the people who go out of their way to make every minute perfect. That Bellini...shes trouble and I love trouble. If I could give them10 stars I would. Going back soon.

Beautiful hotel! Right on the beach, nice pool. Just as an FYI though, this hotel is far away from town- can rent a golf car for the day/week to get to town though. Clean, comfortable and unique rooms.

A nice resort in a bit of a remote location on Ambergris Caye (about a 20 minute golf cart ride to Secret Beach; 40 to town on a bumpy road). The cabanas are cute and clean, the staff is generally friendly, the restaurant is fine. The small activities shop offers lovely tours to Caye Caulker, as well as some nearby snorkeling and diving, which we highly recommend! Having now stayed on the island, we would recommend something a bit closer to the action, as when there is bad weather, you can be a bit trapped here without much to do, but overall, a perfectly nice choice.

Had dinner in dining room one evening. Service was excellent as was the food. Nice menu. Portofino sent a boat to pick us up at our resort and took us back after dinner. We were met at boat with eucalyptus scented damp cloths to freshen up. Nice extra. Highly recommend.

Food awesome, staff super friendly & helpful. We were soooo hungry & they got the food to us quickly & were even able to substitute for my husbands dairy allergies!

Excellent resort with a equally excellent staff! Our stay here was made memorable by the really sweet and responsive staff. The location is amazing (slightly remote - takes a 15 min plane ride from Belize City to San Pedro + 20 mins boat ride from San Pedro to the resort). The rooms were ok (we stayed in the Jaguar room - spacious, but bathroom had no door, fan made a lot of noise). But well maintained and thoroughly cleaned every day.The restaurant on the resort was great as well, good service and good options for food and drink.The entire resort has a very laid back and relaxing atmosphere. I also highly recommend Roberto the dive shop owner for any of the diving/ snorkelling tours. We went on a snorkeling tour with him and he took really good care of us and our 5 year old daughter and made the whole experience extremely enjoyable.Will definitely go back!

Small property. Great for getting to know all the guests. Private and secluded but close enough to get to all things. Best of all the staff. Everyone so friendly and helpful. All the staff are there for you to make your stay as perfect as you want it to be.

One visit to Portofino will not help you understand why everything fits into place at this property. I went on my second date with a lady friend. We had a magical time there due to the weather, staff/friends, .... over all.... The food was excelent. The service James and Luis gave us was top knotch.Thank you Jan

Great bang-for-your buck hotel! This secluded villa is definitely off the beaten trail, and thats what makes it so special. Quiet, clean, peaceful, and well-landscaped. Gorgeous views. Accessible by boat. We got the all-inclusive package which included transport from BZE, meals comped, drinks comped, and I highly recommend it if you intend to spend most of your time at the resort like we did. I found the staff to be kind and attentive, and the food was good, especially breakfast and lunch. We were able to rent a golf cart and drive it to the city (~30 minute drive one-way). Would not recommend trying to bike there. Such a great time!

Great service, great comfort, great food - wonderful spot north of San Pedro. Would highly recommend and I do plan on coming back - everything was a thumbs up except for two things: seaweed washing up on the beach (its the whole island so not much they can do), and the pricing on somethings (food/golf cart rentals) were a little on the high side in comparison, not a deal breaker but noticeable. The attached dive shop was excellent for local diving and snorkeling and make the process super easy. Overall after driving by almost all the other resorts on the island and drinking at several, it was the best choice hands down. You wont regret choosing this spot for your vacation/honeymoon.

This property is located north of the island which is very quiet compared to the mid-south. The resort has a great location, food and service. The water activities can be scheduled right at the property. I would stay here again.

This place is amazing! The staff was very nice and helpful, especially our bartender Luis. A very laid back island feel. The food was very good as were the drinks. The room was more than adequate, because really, who just wants to stay in the room all the time in paradise? You can dive or snorkel just a short boat ride to the national reserve on the reef. It will not disappoint! Rent a golf cart and explore the island, there are many “secret “ places that will make you want to visit time and time again. Can’t wait to return and make more unforgettable friends and memories.

This place, simply put, is paradise! We stayed in the VIP Cabana it was beautiful. When we arrived they gave us some tropical drinks to walk back through the soft white sand to our Cabana. They had flowers and pedals on our bed when we walked in. The people here are as friendly as it is beautiful. Bring sunscreen (SPF 70) and alot of it!

WowWhere do I start? First off its hard to book something without knowing or even who to trust with a vacation of a lifetime. I searched and looked online for the perfect place. I believed the pictures and the reviews and most of all my instincts where hopefully correct. I was excited. See this was a surprise for my husband of 35 years. We always are somewhere new for his birthday. I chose to be at the Portofino beach resort, San Pedro, Belize, this year.We arrive at the smallest airport we have ever seen. Get into a prop plane to take us for a three night 4-day adventure. We land a taxi takes us to the Portofino transportation a boat with the most courteous gentlemen. It was the smoothest, most reliable, convenient and majestic ride ever. We pull up to the pier where Portofino employees are awaiting our arrival — greeted by an excellent, devoted staff — making our way down a long wooded path to Paradise. From the minute we stepped off the boat on this haven yes haven we were treated as if we were royalty. We were so impressed by the lure. It was beautiful, romantic, relaxing, luxurious. We were anticipating the adventure that awaited us.We met lovely people from all over the world. We snorkeled among the fish, relaxed by the sea, as well enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The staff was outstanding. The food was delicious and reasonable.Thank you Portofino Beach Resort for making my husbands birthday not only an adventure; a trip of a lifetime for a short time. Absolutely stunning beachfront property. Boat takes you there direct from the mainland. Secluded enough for privacy, and they have golf carts to rent so you can get anywhere on the island. Super friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The best place to stay in San Pedro, excellent service - some of the best Ive ever seen. The resort grounds are gorgeously maintained, great pool, wonderful tours/activities, dive shop right off the dock is wonderful for diving or snorkeling - this is the only place Ill stay for now on.

Beautiful property, well trained staff, the staff worked very hard every day making sure the property was well maintained.

Fun resort with thatch roof ambiance. Staff friendly and helpful with lots of water activities. Guides were great leading snorkeling tours, ensuring everyone was safe and saw as much of the coral reefs and species from mantarays to nurse sharks to turtles and much more. Id come back!

Our stay was enjoyable overall. The arrival and departure process was made very easy by the very friendly front desk staff and the kind man who runs the boat charter to and from the resort. The beach cabanas are nice and spacious for a couple. We did have quite a bit of trouble with our air conditioning though the staff tried hard to make us comfortable. They even brought us a fan which was great because one night the air went out completely. I think our biggest let down was the food. Sadly, it wasnt that good but I wouldnt let that be a deal breaker on staying here because Mambo is just down the road along with several other options reachable by golf cart. Dont miss out on SCUBA diving with Action Divers! Theyre a class act operation and run a great business right off the pier of Portofino! The pool was wonderful and clean! Id certainly stay at this resort again.

This was our second trip back this year and we took my youngest daughter (11 yrs) this time. The Portofino family was as great as before! There were a couple new faces but they greeted and helped us like theyd known us for years. Being a smaller resort, you not only greet the staf in the morning but the other guests also. And with a dive shop on their pier you often have a snorkling or scuba adventure with someone you will see after dinner and chat with. Roberto at the dive shop is incredible! I had a bad into session to scuba before and I tried again with him this time and I was so comfortable and it was a success. My boyfriend, daughter, Roberto and many staff and guests all cheered for me when I completed my scuba experience. My daughter also met a local kiddo and was able to take a couple bike rides while she waited on us - they have bikes for use. Im not sure where you can truly feel a family vibe like this anywhere else. The seagrass has also subsided and we were disappointed we didnt get to take the kayaks out this time since it was such a short trip. I guess we will have to return!Our stay: 4 nights - 2 nights treetop, 2 nights Lower Mansion (great for a family). Massage with Isadora and Andrea (a must!). Snorkeled Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley with Chocolate (from Robertos dive shop). The sharks are always fun to see and even though we didnt see any turtles at Hol Chan we did see 3 beautiful spotted stingrays. Rented golf cart from Sams for 1 day to go into town and visit Secret Beach. It was great!

Could use a swim up bar. Otherwise loved the people and the place

Great resort and staff... was promptly greeted with cold beverage and cold towel. Check in was smooth and painless.. Food offered was okay, could of been better varieties. Very cool rooms and they offered different scents of soap bars. Daily room cleaning and complimentary daily breakfast and free boat rides in town. Highly recommend and will be back in the future.

Welcomed with scented towels, our stay was so wonderful. Couldnt ask for a more friendly staff, great meals and a comfy neat room. Super views, swimming pool and inviting hammocks. The staff lined us up with Roberto and Teddy for a great snorkeling trip and then a memorable Mayan ruin trip. The worst thing is bumpy water taxi rides into town but this is where we would come back to as we loved the location.

Beautiful view, and great food we didnt stay there just ate. If you like salad for sure try the shrimp, avacodo, lime salad. Amazing!!!

The service was excellent and the staff was very kind and helpful. The food was very good also. The grounds were beautiful. Only drawback was it was 6 miles from San Pedro. Either go buy water taxi or rent a golf cart. The only road into town was awful!

Fantastic stay at Portofinos! The room and service were amazing. The staff gets to know you quickly and are very helpful and friendly. The resort itself is great offering a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and excursion company on the dock. I would highly recommend Portofinos if you are planning a trip to San Pedro!

We stayed in the treetop suite and absolutely loved it!! All of the staff members were so friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff was amazing and I wanted to bring her home with me hehe. My boyfriend and I had a blast renting their golf carts and driving to town and exploring! We will definitely be back!!

The hotel grounds are nice. However, the seaweed is overpowering in the whole Ambergris Caye area. The hotel staff cleans the seaweed but there is no much of a beach. The rooms are hot. The AC wont get lower than 17C degrees. You will be sweating if you like a cold room at night but if you are okay with a cool room then this is for you. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Overall if you want privacy and quiet I would recommend this.

Everything was taken care of right from landing in san pedro. we were shuttled in a taxi, taken by boat to the resort, and met on the pier by staff. check in was simple and they were fully prepared when we arrived.food throughout the day was very good- dinner is a little lacking.staff was always present and happy to help with any question and they quickly learned our room for ease of signing off our daily bill.the room was very comfortable and cleaned every morning plus turn down service at night. the beach and resort are raked each night keeping a picture perfect white sand feel.the staff at the dive shop were wonderful and easily accommodated a personalized snorkeling trip. we loved the resort and would definitely consider returning.

4 Tage im ParadiesEs stimmte einfach alles: Shuttle vom Express-Terminal, Empfang und ein wunderschönes Zimmer.Das Resort liegt ca. 20 Min. seaway vom Hauptort San Pedro entfernt. Morgens fährt ein kostenloser Shuttle, aber auch zu anderen Zeiten wenn man an der Reception nachfragt.Das Dinner ist sehr gut - aber auch recht teuer. Das Service Personal ist aufmerksam und gut gelaunt.Der Pool ist wunderbar angelegt und läd zum Verweilen ein.Am Strand werden viele Algen angeschwemmt, so dass das Baden direkt am Hotel eher nicht zu empfehlen ist. Man kann aber kostenfrei Kajaks ausleihen und ein Stück rauspaddeln - auch zum Schnorcheln :)Die Crew des Tauchshops ist engagiert und bietet tolle Touren an - gut - die Preise sind recht hoch, aber die Erlebnisse machen das wieder wett.Der Hotelchef hat uns sehr freundlich bei der Organisation eines Fahrers von Belize City zu unserem zweiten Hotel im Dschungel von Belize unterstützt. Vielen Dank noch einmal dafür - es hat alles super geklappt!!

Small, charming, great food, warm & friendly, even though the place was a bit rustic it was heavenly charming & intimate. Came for my daughters wedding at the resort with about 20 other family & friends & pretty much had the resort to ourselves. Had a few days on either side of the wedding to experience some other touristy attractions on the mainland. The friendly and warm servers felt like family members after a couple of days & went out of their way to make us comfortable & happy. The resort organized everything to get from the airport in San Pedro to the resort. Friendly van driver met us right at little airport and drove us the 3 minutes to boat dock where they have their own little water taxi boat that picked us up on a dock in San Pedro (Thanks Moh). Thank you all, especially Daniela who met us at the resort dock with a friendly smile & a cold wet washcloth after a long journey from the USA. Took our bags to our rooms while we checked in. Free coffee bar starting at 5:00 a.m. (thanks Joe).Free Continental breakfast every morning is fantastic - fresh cut fruit, w/ eggs, toast, & fresh squeezed OJ. We added great smokey bacon few times. Special shout out & thanks to Marcel, Shieavelli (sp?) & Ivan for providing such great friendly wait service & tolerating our relaxed pace decision making, fun & goofiness. The chef/cooks did a great job with all the food - lots of fresh seafood. Daniela can & did organize our trips to the mainland - again making sure another friendly face met us each step of the way to keep us relaxed, etc. Luis & other bartender (name escapes me) made great drinks - lots of fresh fruit smoothies often with our favorite spirits added. Our rooms were clean & beds made every day. Our bathroom in the lower mansion could really use an exhaust fan. Stefanie, the wedding planner was very attentive & accommodating every step of the way, from 1st contact from the USA all the way through the wedding. She always responded to emails right away. The only negative was the sea grass piling up in the dock & beach areas - it was an especially bad week for it - but the resort had 6 - 8 guys working hard every day trying to remove as much of it as they could. Pastor Ian did nice service, coordinating with the Sikh minister who came with my new in-laws in a hybrid blended ceremony. And Pastors daughters did a great job on doing the hair & make-up for the bride & matron of honor. Mexico Rocks is the company on the Portofino dock who will do snorkle & diving trips for you. Thanks to Roberto (manager) & Mr. Chocolate (great snorkle guide) for a wonderful snorkling experience. Do the short snorkle trip first - see alot & only a ten minute boat ride. The whole experience was quite the journey but well worth it - & many great memories to last a lifetime.

Beach was not usable as it was covered with seaweed every single day. Bed was lumpy. Only grace was the snorkeling and scuba diving

My fiancé and I chose Portofino based off of online research from the good reviews and did not want to be too close to San Pedro. We had the breach front cabana and planned our excursions before arrival ; however I recommend getting the flights from Belize city airport, room, and a la carte breakfast in your base package then planning your excursions once you get there - there is usually plenty of room in various tour and scuba groups. Unlike a lot of other resorts, they have a dive shop offering many different adventures right on their pier!The resort itself was clean and was in a perfect location just 15 mins from town and offered daily boat rides to San Pedro and their office staff were amazing, professional and always eager to help. The food was very good but be aware that they charge in USD rather than BZD. The bottom line is...Portofino was fantastic and we would definitely go again!

This place is a RIP off. Stopped by here driving the golf cart around. Its an awkward private resort wayy off the main roads with an over priced bar. If you happened to book here shame on you. Honestly if I could give zero stars I would. There are plenty of other greats resorts and bars on the island!

Hotel was very nice and the staff was amazing. You must booked the BBQ at the Beach water activity with Roberto! Its a must do. I did not appreciate the mosquitoes at the resort, you must bring repellent. Overall had a great time at the resort.

This a good place, not perfect, but you can tell they want to be. The cabanas are mostly great, there are AC units in each room, a nice hot shower and well sealed doors and windows so nothing crawls in. I stayed in lower mansion. The pool is beautiful and the ground keeping crew maintained it and the beach diligently every day. I loved the hammocks in every corner and the swings. I witnessed first hand the best qualities of some of the staff, the house keeper went above and beyond in helping with laundry, Lester from the front desk actually went in torrential rain to bring my golf cart back, Edward from security came in the middle of the night to walk with me when my golf cart stopped, and the boat captain carried my luggage to the airport. In my opinion excellent service even when the product is mediocre is what separates luxury from budget resorts and this place can definitely get there if they hire more people with this attitude. Reminds me of the level of service at the Grand Hyatt and Ritz.I loved that they provided complementary boat trips to and from the airport. Upon arrival a cooling towel and refreshing drink awaits you.The attitude of island dwellers is generally relaxed but that flies out the window if you arrive at the restaurant 15 mins before it closes... the whole F&B team needs major training. I won’t go into more details because I don’t want to get anyone fired but I think better training and management would make this a true 3 Star establishment. Right now it’s barely at 2.The things I didn’t like were the hours of the front desk, it closed at 10:30 and you couldn’t get a hold of anyone. I literally called the front desk 17 times over the period of 90 minutes and no one picked up. That’s a budget hotel trick, unworthy of what Portofino wants to be. Also no room service but the staff will do it if you ask.Lastly, don’t rent your golf cart from the guy at the dive shop on the dock. He is a total shister, I did a week rental and was promised a full tank daily but three days came and went and he didn’t refill it, I was stranded with a non functioning golf cart in the middle of the night in the wilds of San Pedro. He had the audacity to tell me it wasn’t his fault. There are tons of golf cart rentals up and down the road, they will all deliver it to Portofino, refill it every day and treat you like decent human beings (just make sure to ask the right questions so you are not surprised in case of emergency). Why is this part of the Portofino review? Because Portofino recommends them and houses them on their property, they should do a better job of evaluating their vendors.Overall my stay was enjoyable, with a few tweaks this place could be paradise.

Boat ride was a nightmare, food was not great for the price. My Manhattan straight up came back as a shot of whiskey on the rocks.

Every aspect of this hotel made our stay great. The help was friendly and the hotel had all the amenities needed for a comfortable experience. Everyone was pleasant and did the extra little things that made this trip special.

Air con, didnt work for the first two days. Finally replaced whole unit.
