We stayed in cabins 22, right on the beach. It had a very comfortable bed and the views were unimpeded! We fell asleep to the sounds of the waves and the oceans breeze every night. The cabina is perfect for two people with a small fridge and a coffee maker. We liked to sit on the small deck and read or hang out. There are three pools on the property though at one point, the bartender told us two of them were reserved for owners. We used them anyway since they were advertised. Important to note that the ones with the swim-up bar are NOT staffed. So expect to walk to the other pool to get your drinks.Staff was friendly though inconsistent on information. On Tuesday nights, the restaurant has a nice buffet of local foods with vendors there to sell trinkets and live reggae music. No one told us about it but we did hear about it from another guest. Sadly, it was poorly attended. Better communication of what is available to guests would be appreciated.Location of the resort is close enough to town without being too far away. Any further than 2-3 miles N of the bridge (or N of here) is far with road conditions.Recommended to rent your golf cart from the resort! It is a few dollars more than getting one in town but there is only one gas station on the S side of town and getting back and forth to it on return day is a PAIN and a loss of valuable vacation time!Special thanks to Keiner at the front desk and to Matt in the restaurant.Overall, we had a nice stay.

So Captain Morgans is a pretty awesome place to stay. The rooms are nice and the staff goes above and beyond to please. The food was awesome and the drinks were strong.The pools were clean and relaxing. Everything was relaxing. There were two dogs that hung out around the resort, Megs and Lighthouse. These dogs were always there and very friendly. Some of our party brought them bacon and burger which I am sure added to their hanging around.The food was always great and came quickly. The staff remembered my orders from day to day and would ask if I wanted something I ordered from the day before. It was a good time.

Enjoyable, relatively quiet, beautiful setting, close to the water. Everything was great! Not a 5 star for US standards but certainly for this beautiful island. 2 concerns, nothing terrible, just know you are on a small “island”. The water pressure was low but always had hot water. The other concern was the proximity to your neighbors. We stayed in the Premium Cabanas. The views and proximity to the water made it up for it. The retreat is 3 miles from San Pedro. Very happy for that as San Pedro is very noisy. You will need a golf cart regardless. There’s lots to explore while taking a day off from diving. Will definitely stay here again.

Great time in Belize at Captian Morgans Restort

The Casino is cute but the dealers act like they dont really even care if you are there. Smile. Laugh. We are there to have fun! Make us feel special... pretend that works too! The place looks adorable for the bungalows and location. I hope the employees will realize how they are affecting business! Standing around talking they act like we are bothering them. Customer service goes along way. ️

Quiet, and secluded...great pools. Close proximity to tons of restaurants and bars. Nor far from secret beach. A little further removed from town, but we chose it for that reason. The rooms were a little darker and dated, but clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend!

Our stay at captain morgan’s was great and I would highly recommend! The rooms were clean, everyone was very friendly and gave great recommendations for things to do and places to eat in San Pedro, especially our concierge Boni. The amenities were awesome. We had the ability to take the kayaks out a couple times to see dolphins and eagle rays, which is all complimentary. I would stay here again.

Im going to have to say this is the best place where I had the best mango Daiquiri drinks they were super super good and I also got a complimentary massage the place is very clean quiet and it is so cool they had Captain Morgan inside the pool the only thing that I observed was that the bartender was like working in slow motion it would take them forever to make a drink but they were really good they also have a casino there where you can go gamble at night time from 6 or 7 p.m. till like 2 or 3 a.m. I believe its a fun little spot that you have to drive to see everything from the dirt road at the front thank you for your services everything was great

The crew at Captain Morgans Retreat was awesome. Bonafacio greeted us with a smile (along with Joelle, Phil, and Joel during our stay) at the Front Desk. Our room was taken care of and had a nice touch of flower petals when we checked in...wife really like that...and immediately we realized they cared about clean!!! Clean room, clean bathroom, clean sheets, clean, clean, clean!!! Roger helped us with all of our excursions for snorkeling and a trip to the Mayan ruins! This is a great place and really nice to have everything (golf cart, restaurant, store, and beach) onsite. We will be coming back.

We visited 1/3/20-1/9/20 from California. This hotel was beautiful! The staff is incredibly nice and willing to help you with anything you need. They have golf carts on site for you to rent along with bikes. The restaurants were okay, and expensive but it’s convenient to charge to your room when done.The pools are not heated, and it wasn’t hot enough to make the pools enjoyable to be in. Also, the swimUp bars weren’t always manned which would have been nice. Kinda false advertisingThe rooms are nice, but the walls are very thin. We had an ocean view and pool view room it was beautiful. They have body wash and shampoo, but no conditioner. After a day snorkeling on the ocean, conditioned would have been nice.The location is great. It’s right on the ocean. There are a bunch of restaurants you can walk to even, if you don’t want to rent a Golf cart everyday.Overall, I would definitely stay here again! Belize we will miss you.

We loved staying at Captain Morgans. Check-in was quick with friendly desk clerks. We were even given a complimentary rum punch on arrival. Our room was very nice and spacious, with a kitchenette, living/dining room, separate bedroom and bathroom. We also had a patio with two lounge chairs and table overlooking the beach and just steps from the water. All three pools and the beach were very clean. The only problem, and by no fault of the resort, was a lot of seaweed and murky water. The resort groundskeepers were busy raking seaweed from the beach, but it kept coming back. The first night and morning we ate at the resorts restaurant which was open air and overlooked the main pool. The dinner food was very good, but the breakfast was only so so and a little overpriced.Also at breakfast, Itried using the salt shaker, but the top was broken and salt spilled all over my plate. I told the waiter and he said he would get another salt shaker, not that he would get me a new plate of food. There is a small grocery store and tour desk at the hotel. The grounds are very pretty and have lots of tropical flowers and palm trees. There are several good restaurants within a few minutes drive by golf cart and Secret Beach is about twenty minutes away.

Coming here for years great place to chill

Worst hotel stay in my 50 years of traveling. Beware. Website pictures are diametrically opposed to reality. Ripoff room cost of a Hilton for Motel 6. Room had saltwater in the shower. Had to purchase our own potable water for our room. Air conditioning loud and blew directly on us. TV barely worked with limited channels and fuzzy picture. Walls between rooms thin. The beach was so covered in seaweed it stunk and drew flies, grounds unkept. Drinks were double the price and weak, we only ate there once so that’ll tell you about the food. Grounds look like a construction site. To our north was their condos with a pool we couldn’t use, the good reviews must be coming from there or made up by robots. Thank God we only paid (in advance) for 2 nights as they won’t refund your money. We tried canceling 8 days prior and it was a “no refund “ policy. I’m still upset . You will be much happier south of San Pedro. My suggestion is they find an owner who cares, tear it down and start over. Yes, the staff was friendly but that isn’t what we paid for.

My husband and I fell in love with Ambergris and Captain Morgan’s 17 years ago. The property has grown a lot since then. The staff is still friendly, the beach and pools are beautiful. My only mini complaint is not being able to get any clean towels for 3 days. I don’t mind being environmentally conscious and have no problem hanging bath towels but being able to get fresh hand towels, washcloths and dish towels more frequently if you need them would be nice.

Great staff. Clean rooms. Convenient location to take advantage of the north and south sides of the island.

I loved staying in the villa! It was quiet and cozy. Didn’t hear our neighbors at all, yet if I wanted to strike up some conversation, I could do just that! The villa so close to the ocean was amazing! Getting up and watching the sun rise every morning was incredible!

The resort staff is very friendly and helpful (although name tags would be helpful to recognize people). The shower pressure was weak. The rooms are nice but individually decorated (some may have queen beds or kings, big fridges or small, etc.). We originally had a room without a stove...but the staff was very helpful and changed our room to a comparable room. The restaurant is nice but eating there everyday would get old so we shopped at the store onsite to eat in and rented a golf cart to go into San Pedro. A taxi trip to San Pedro will run $25 US...the golf cart gave us the flexibility to buy more groceries, shop in town and try some great restaurants. Go to Secret Beach...ignore what others say. It is a nice beach where you can go into the water and swim without sea grass. It is a bumpy ride to get there but you can spend the day hanging out on the sand, in the water or playing volleyball. There is no snorkeling from the shore anywhere near the resort so boat trips are a must if you want to see marine life. Felix in the Tours office always greeted us with a smile and arranged some great tours for us. Herman was our guide for our snorkel trips to Hol Chan, Shark Ray Alley and Mexico Rocks both trips were great (nurse sharks, sting rays, lobsters, turtles and so many fish!!). My son lost his baseball cap that he got for Christmas (the night before we left) and the staff went out of their way to find his hat and they did! Thank you!!!!

Beautiful resort located about 10-15 minutes from town. Unfortunately its in need of maintenance. Its starting to look at bit used but I would still go back. Great staff and great service! They now charge for the user of paddle boards but no biggie, we had great time! They should try to use a water net to fight the Sargassum invasion. Overall great experience!

We stayed for 4 nights in a beach cabana. The view was amazing. Staff at the front desk was very nice and helped us with planning excurisons and finding golf cart rentals last minute. Our room was tidied up daily. Drinks by the pool were delish. Would definitely recommend this to anyone going to Ambergris Caye.

Needs property upkeep. The entertainment was sub par. Nothing at night. Needs more attention to beach/lounge chairs.

The staff were excellent! Very helpful and friendly! The resort was on a great location, far enough out of town with not a lot of traffic, but close enough to make a trip to town with not ant hassle! Loved it, would definitely go back!!

Grounds are kept beautifully, but you cant enter the ocean from the beautiful beach. Like most of ambergris caye, the island is surrounded by eel grass. You have to go on a boat to get to nice water. The hotel is far north, advisable to rent a golf cart to get to restaurants.

El hotel es muy bueno y con muchas opciones de entretenimiento. El personal es muy amigable y es de los que tienen mejor ambiente, y la comida es muy buena. La vista es impresionante, únicamente que no puedes bañarte en la playa ya que hay muchas algas. Únicamente tuvimos un pequeño inconveniente con la limpieza del cuarto que no cambiaban las toallas, no ponian nuevos jabones sino hasta que hicimos el reclamo. Si bien el cuarto llenaba nuestras expectativas ya que estaba frente al mar, la cama era comoda, pero en si era muy básico, y en el baño no había a donde colocar toallas o la ropa, lo cual era incomodo. Realmente es un muy buen hotel, ya que ofrecen todo tipo de entretenimiento en diferentes tours, aunque tienen que fijarse mas en esos pequeños detalles.

Seaweed/grass is a massive problem which is feet deep and has discoloured the sea to a brown colour 100s of yards out. A few resorts have closed down due to this problem. No swimming possible.Staff at Captain Morgan are brilliant, apartment was good as is the resort as a whole.The weed is constantly being removed but it is an uphill struggle.

The staff at Captain Morgans are very friendly and welcoming, helpful if you need anything and the facilities are great. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend if you are looking for a more quiet, laid back atmosphere away from the San Pedro town centre.

They are doing a lot of construction to expand and modernize...but the big condo that we stayed in...3BR/3BTH was awesome to say the least! The pools are top notch....we spent HOURS in the one with the swim up afternoon bar...the spa was wonderful as well....casino is small but hey, its the only one on the island!...dont expect swimming on the beach here at the resort, the sea grass is thick and the sand is soupy....but that is not a knack on CM, almost all places are like that on the island, except for Secret Beach! Which is only about a 20 min cart ride from CM (highly recommend it for at least 1 day)....the CM staff were helpful and polite...shuttling is to and from the water taxi (even stopping on the way in at a grocery store to allow us to pickup some supplies)...the staff arranged a couple of amazing outings for us: snorkeling the reef with sharks and a ruins day trip inland. I highly recommend this place!

Well situated and carefully manicured grounds. Delightful weather and very helpful staff. We had beach cabana room 50 ft from ocean. No waves due to reef off shore. So shallow slope of beach that swimming was impossible up to hundreds of ft from shore. Food at restaurant was marginal was served stone crabs that were old and dried out. Very limited food selections.Unfortunately, our cabana was not RAT proof. We had daily visits with RAT turds and urine on our bed. Apparently, these RATS prefer the pillow area to leave their presents. I managed to conceal this activity from my wife, so she was pleased with room. I contrast, I was nervous about what was going on while we slept.

Captain Morgans Retreat was a great place to stay for our Belize vacation. The food was good and not overpriced; the room was very clean and inviting. The boat ride required to get anywhere was a little annoying, and could easily be improved if Captain Morgans would run on a schedule. The staff was friendly and helpful. I also noticed that we had security guards around the property day and night.I would definitely recommend this property and would return there.

The resort was clean, comfortable and service from the staff was great! AC was fully functional and we had a ceiling fan available. My friend and I stayed at the small, beach front house. If you are looking for a place to relax, away from town and local businesses, then this is the place for you. The beach front is not a clear blue like other areas. Aside from the sea grass, which I was expecting, the water looked murky and not suitable to go in. Food was good and it’s reasonably priced. Drinks were okay, high premium liquor is available but it can get expensive, $14.00 USD per drink. Staying at this resort you must get a golf cart to get into town! It’s the only way to move around and the most economical. I paid $25 USD for a taxi, one way trip to town. I am a 30 year old and I went with my friend. If you want to explore town, party, and go on excursions I wouldn’t recommend this resort. The town is about 20-30 minutes away, a lot of the bars and eateries are overlooking the ocean and they are beautiful!There’s also a myriad of hotels to choose from in town. I booked Captain Morgans because I enjoy pool bars, though this resort had one, it was very quiet. If you stay in town, you probably won’t need a golf cart for too many days. I booked an excursion, they picked us up but we were far away from the service point. All in all, I enjoyed Captain Morgan’s! But it’s definitely a place to go retreat. If this is what you want, then I would highly recommend it!!

Price was good, pool was good, restaurant food was good, view from our room was good. Staff is friendly, and helpful. Room was nice and clean. Shower had good water pressure.Maintenance requests are responded to quickly. AC was broken in the %100 on position, Only had 1 very cold night.Internet WiFi reception was poor in our room, only had good connection when standing in the front area, very poor/not useable in the bedroom and bathroom.The bed was comfortable, but it squeaked whenever we moved.The golf cart we rented worked but had issues. Actually broke down on our last night, but a local saw us and jury rigged the cart so we could limp back to the resort. Not a huge issue but noteworthy.The casino is nice... but... it’s a little weird compared to casinos in the USA. Hard to describe the problems... nothing serious, they are honest and friendly... it just doesn’t seem to run very smoothly. Like when it comes to paying a bar tab with a credit/debit card. slower than when you buy something at any other bar in Belize... a lot slower...and they take your ID during this time... and they photo copy it...all in all, this was a pretty good hotel for San Pedro. I would stay here again, price depending.

Check in took a couple hours. The staff was overwhelmed and there were several guests ahead of us in line that had room complaints that took a long time to resolve.The exterior condition of the resort buildings looked like it was in need or repair - wood siding falling off, missing soffets, etc.The main pool was very pretty, but the poot with the swim up bar always looked cloudy and lots of stuff floating in it. The room was nice, the AC unit in the bedroom worked great. The only complaint was the mouse problem...our bread and snacks were broken into and mostly eaten by rodents.We were also there the week after heavy winds and rough seas so the water was churned up and murky with mounds and mounds of sea weed. Not much that can be done about that, but no body was swimming at the resort beach and snorkeling wasnt possible.

This place is awesome. You can take a kayak out and snorkel around the reef, and you see tons of cool tropical life. You can order double pina coladas from any of the 3 humongous pools. You can go with their captain to go fishing and come back with enough grouper and conch to feed your whole group. And, of course, you can enjoy the San Pedro nightlife, come back, and play blackjack in the casino, which is way nicer than we expected. My buddies and I stayed in one of their condos, and it was pimp. We had an awesome time, and cant wait to come back next year!

Nice resort on beach, staff helpful. Would stay again. It is a bit out of town. We rented golf cart so it was not bad, we enjoyed the 15 minute drive to town. Had to pay a $2.50 (per way) toll to go over bridge To get to town each day (they were only stopping tourists). Pools nice, resort clean. Directly on beach. Seaweed bad but resort made huge effort to clear the best they could. Can take water taxi anywhere for $5 US per person .

Absolutely amazing. Stayed in a 2 bedroom villa and it was stellar. Staff is amazing, go out of their way to provide anything you may want. Will be back

I think it just need to be updated and user friendly. The internet needs to be better

Servers and bartenders were good but management is terrible. They want to overcharge you for every little thing. Be very careful with these owners. We asked for towels and they counted the dirty ones lol. They have a sign in the kitchen that threatens if you leave any dirty dishes or take any dishes out there’s a $75 US fee. The pool was nice, the place was clean, the security and staff were decent.

The service and amenities were great. The beach is the only reason this received four stars.

We did a tour to Hal tan and shark strinray alley. Guides Chop and Devon were GREAT. I had my young grandson with me and Chop stayed with us. He made sure he was safe at all times.

The food and drinks were good, but I got bed bug bites all over my body and the management wanted to give us a discount for our meals not the room. Unfortunately we had already paid for our meals and they did not want to refund anything.

Beautiful view & very accommodating staff. Will definitely stay here again upon our return.

We went down to the restaurant the night we arrived for for dinner. The food was overpriced for the quality that we recieved. The next morning, we came down for lunch. It was alright, not the best Ive had, not the worst. We came down this evening to have our fish cooked that we caught earlier in the day. We were told it would be done at a certain time and it was late by quite a while. I recommend going a little south to Truck Stop (highly recommended) or to Crocs. Much better food quality. The last time we were here, the food was better and it was way busier.

This is the second time staying at Captain Morgans and it was an amazing time !! The staff is over the top and will do anything to make your stay excellent . The restaurant is clean and the food is very good . Yes the water has a lot of Sea Grass but that is just the way it is on Ambergis Caye . If you explore a little you will find some great beaches to swim Secret Beach and on Caye Caulker . We will definitely will be back next year !!

They are really trying to bring the property up. Problem is the beach is not a nice beach for my standards ( sea grass) they cant help it, but most of Belize is that way, not great beaches. The prices are high. They are serving small portions for high prices all over ambergis Caye. I think they believe all Americans are millionaires. And they have you over a barrel, so we will not go back. But if youre going to go to ambergis Caye Captain Morgans is one of the nicer ones in the mid priced range.
