I ordered the lunch special twice from Chef Lis and both times I had over- sauced, tasteless, bland food for over $15 per person. More importantly, both times I encountered an irascible attitude from the same male cashier when ordering. The second time, on 7/17/21, I did notice that his behavior was very different with the Caucasian customers who entered and ordered after me. This attitude is absolutely intolerable, especially in the Bay Area, and it prompted me to immediately write this review. I do hope you all do not have the same experience as I did at Chef Lis.

Excellent lunch specials and friendly service

The food is pretty tasty but the customer service, not so much. Not only have they yelled and hung up on me; they get frustrated when they do not understand. Also Postmates lists items they do not have and are missing basic items like their orange chicken.So be patient if you are ordering...I hope someone tells them the same.

Would certainly recommend eating here. Awesome character, delicious dishes, good service. They never disappoint.

The best Chinese food in the area. It is a lovely place with orchids everywhere. The menu is full of classics and more. There is even a vegetarian menu.

Went for lunch and it wasnt what I expected. The decor is bright and filled with flowers that you can purchase to take home. Service was prompt if not necessarily cheery. The food was served quick. I had the Kiwi Strawberry Chicken which was a unique take on sweet and sour chicken. Definitely recommend.

Do you remember what Chinese food tasted like as a kid? I do. This restaurant brought it back! Amazing food. Ol time favs potstickers, beef broccoli, Kung pao chicken, chow mein... every dish was great. The owner seems so friendly with his guests, he was so talkative with people. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. The food is very tasty and the service is great. However, Ive ordered the Vegetarian Moo Shu several times. When I order it to eat in the restaurant, its vegetarian. When I order take out, there is meat in it. Not sure why the inconsistency. The restaurant management should ensure that the customer receives what they order.

A meal of very delicious food with fresh flavors in each dish we ordered. Despite arriving 12 minutes prior to closing, the service was attentive and quick. Seated amongst a stunning display of live orchids any collector would covet, the whole experience was a pleasant diversion from the seemingly banal mini-mall setting. Every entree ordered was VERY good, no standouts as each became a favorite of someone at the table! Well certainly be back for more excellent Chinese food and another addition to the orchid family at home! (Orchid prices are astonishingly low while menu items are a reasonably good value with the average around $10-$11). Nice Experience.

The best Chinese food in the Bay area! Walnut shrimp, salt n pepper pork!And they grow and sell the most beautiful orchids so the restaurant is decorated with orchids everywhere!

Best Chinese food in San Jose! We moved to Southern San Jose and still come at least once a month. Bonus, the orchids are beautiful.

Came here for the first time to order hot and sour soup. Was told by the owner that there was a minimum....ugh what? Asked why, they said because they set the table? Again, what?? Orchid on the table had a price tag on it for $60 and the place is FULL of them, dont try to put it on the customers to pay for your gaudy decor.

Somethings wrong with their ingredient. Maybe they are using canned chicken..I had 2 dishes with chicken and they are all tasteless and dry. Typical for old or canned ingredient..Pineapple fried rice was also very bland, and pineapple was not fresh at all as they described on menu.No specialty food, not-so-fresh ingredient, expensive dishes...Maybe good for old American people...Sorry to say, but probably wont go back again.

First time coming here. Placed 2 medium size party trays (fried wonton with pork and bbq pork chow mein). Very pricey for medium size trays comparing with Chef Ps & other bay area Chinese restaurants but was the nearest one to our home. Contacted store owner to inquire how many pounds of bbq pork was added to our chow mein order lastnite. Owners reply: 12 ounces. Well, I checked the serving size and for medium tray it serves 10-16 ppl. That means that each individual will have 1-2 maximum bay leaf size bbq pork! So my complained was that the medium size party tray was filled mainly with chowmein noodles. Owners response: Ive been doing this for 20 years. And just like last nite I asked him to make sure the sauce is separated from the fried wonton pork. His response: I know what Im doing been doing this for 20 years. Maybe where you go they do that but I dont do that here I know what Im doing. Is it okay as a consumer to clarify how I want my orders?? It took them roughly 10 min to cook each party size order with my 2 orders totaling a little over $150. Owner was answering all his calls with very submissive welcoming friendly voice but was real rude behind the counter. Where does he get off? Through Consumers is how he makes a living. (Thumbs down for Eric the owner). It was very embarrassing to serve friends with PLAIN chowmein!. I believe 1 or less star is deserved.
