Good looking range. Ive only ever been while they host the annual outdoor expo. Its a fun kids event for the end of summer and its free!

Prices are great. Long drive out there. The range is supervised. Shooting range is from 25 yards I believe out to 500 yards. Outdoors. Under a awning. The one thing that is kinda frustrating is the shooting is done in blocks. So you have to wait to see your target.

I have been going there for ten years on and off. There are metal targets you can plink at the 200m, but they have big holes in them so you may not know if you would have hit them all the time. For $6 at the office youll pick a pistol or a rifle target. All guns must be brought in a case and barrels facing the sky as you walk from the vehicle to the range master for check-in. You can only take the guns to and from your vehicle during firing, otherwise they remain put. No more than one round fired per every three seconds, but its not strictly enforced unless you draw attention by firing a small burst. All weapons locked open, empty and safe when not using. Stay off the concrete pad when firing is done. The paper targets will go on target posts found in the metal tan shed behind the range and taped on there. Put tape on your shirt/jacket to tape the target bullet holes when they say you may go down range. This range was only designed to sight in your gun and more so to satisfy the citys requirement of making sure shooters have somewhere to go, other than the local desert, where its illegal or will upset people. So, it was built because they banned shooting in Bernalillo county a couple decades ago as the city grew into the open desert. There is tension in the air at all times, but respect is your only choice and they wont be as harsh once they get to know you as a regular and not an idiot that might kill someone. They value strict safety over fun. You may lay prone, but let the range master know thats your intent before doing it. Every movement you do should be deliberate and with caution if you dont want to be barked at. I think that is a very accurate portrait of what you experience out there will be. Also, its on the west mesa, so youll notice its always more windy out there than the city.
