My wife and I had a superb overnight stay at this lovely country house hotel. The welcome we received from the staff was like nothing wed experienced before - it was as if we were old friends coming to visit rather than first-time customers. The grounds were beautiful and the common areas full of character. We dined in the conservatory restaurant on the Table dhote menu and the food was fabulous throughout all three courses. If I were to make some minor criticisms, Id point out that we only had one chair in our room, which seemed a little odd considering it was described as a double room with seating area. Also, there was no mention of ironing facilities in the guest information book, and whilst we did next morning find the relevant details stashed in a drawer, it was too late to be of use. However, these did not detract from our overall enjoyment, and we would have no hesitation in staying here again, or recommending Douneside House to others.

This is an absolutely delightful place for a quiet, peaceful luxurious stay in the most magnificent rural Scottish countryside. We would not hesitate to recommend anyone to take time out to enjoy Douneside and its immaculate facilities. All the staff were efficient and friendly and were a credit to the MacRobert trust organisation and the memory of that amazing family.

We had an absolutely lovely time at the Douneside! We stayed in Casa 21, which was perfect for us as it had two separate bedrooms and a separate kitchenette/lounging space. The staff were wonderful to us - really made us feel at home, and gave us some nice insight into the history of the place. The meal was 5-star (but be aware that it is a leisurely dinner, not something you can rush in and out of). We would 100% pick this as our first choice if we return to the area.

We enjoyed our stay at Douneside, the hotel is lovely and staff were friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed dinner, it was a lovely dining experience. We made use of the great range of leisure facilities too. The grounds and view from the hotel are beautiful and there are lots of walks to do around Tarland. We will visit again.

Wow!!My grans 80th birthday party was here. We were in a gorgeous room adjacent to the dining room. Incredible food and excellent service. The ambience was superb, we felt like lairds for the day. The gardens are worth exploring and there is a play park for the children. Later in the day we enjoyed a few hours in the pool which has a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. I dont know what it cost, but I imagine it wasnt cheap, but then again this isnt somewhere you come all the time.

We stayed at the Douneside hotel last night and it was an experience I will remember for the longest time. James the Manager was the perfect host, calling me in the afternoon before even checking in to ask if we would like to join them for dinner, to his wonderful farewell on a first name basis this morning. We stayed in Morven, a private cottage just down from the hotel which looked like it was brand new! We had a lovely walk up to the hotel to indulge in our 3 course dinner and I can honestly say I havent eaten food that delicious since the Three Chimneys on Skye. The staff were incredible, surroundings stunning, gardens breathtaking and attention to detail was outstanding. This was a little slice of heaven. My only comment would be that we were still so full from the dinner the night before that breakfast was a challenge to consume but we did our best!!!Heavenly from start to finish, and well done Patrick for being so professional on your first day! We will be booking again and the sooner the better!

Been many times over the years. However it has just had a major refurb and is now open to more than just service families. The house and grounds are magnificent. It is perfectly situated for all of Deeside and the National Park. The service in the hotel is suffering a few minor teething problems but this did not detract from our enjoyment. Looking forward to returning for many years to come.

We stayed in the Alpha Cottage for 3 nights last month and it was the perfect way to start out our journey in Scotland.Even before we arrived Douneside were happy to assist in receiving a package delivered for our trip, so we knew we were off to a great start there. The facilities in the cottage were excellent and there was plenty of room for our family of six. We had a flight delay, which put us behind five hours in our trip. The reception staff couldnt have been more helpful in getting us checked in and settled into the cottage after our late evening arrival. The cleaners were polite and helpful each day. The hotel staff at the main house were just outstanding. They went out of their way each day to make sure we had all that we needed, they arranged special meals for our children to enjoy so we could dine separately while they enjoyed a movie in the tv room during our dinner. The meals at each sitting were excellent. The children particularly loved exploring the gardens and grounds and we felt they were quite safe to explore while we sat on the terraces. The location was ideal for exploring the countryside and a day to trip to Balmoral was a breeze, as was the drive to Stonehaven and Dunnottar Castle. Our daughter had a minor accident during our stay and we cannot speak highly enough of the staffs response in aiding us. Being new the country we were unfamiliar with emergency medical facilities. The Douneside staff assisted us in calling for NHS advice and giving directions to the nearest clinic. Our daughter received the best care and attention we could hope for and the stress of the accident was considerably lessened by how kind everyone at Douneside was.Highly recommend this resort to anyone, but particularly those travelling with young families.

Spent a fantastic night in September in the lovely Gate House cottage. The cottage was a lovely home from home with lovely extra touches! 3 bedrooms with beautiful ensuites and a cosy livingroom with great views, with a log burner if you so needed it! We went up to main house for the tasting meal with matching wines which was absolutely fantastic, staff were great throughout but Tom was especially informative for our wine tasting. The house grounds are very picturesque and the house country chic and very comfortable, would definitely recommend and will be back myself.

Tried to book, left messages on an answer phone, then phoned to speak to the manager and left my details on many occasions, and was assured he would call back, he never did ! I had to contact the hotel by email, to be then told to furnish them with my phone number, to then be told all sorts of rubbish about him being off ill ? Either ill or a day off, which one was the truth and which one was the lie ? A very poor standard of service offered
